Where does one initiate the process when a dealer informs them that Chrysler is canceling their warranty? This revelation can be particularly distressing, as most individuals purchase warranties to mitigate the financial burden of larger repairs. My husband and I were astonished when confronted with this situation. Our vehicle, a 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn with a 5.7-liter engine, was taken to the dealer for a power steering issue, slip, and a CV axle problem. The dealer submitted a claim for the replacement of the rack and pinion, transmission, and CV axle; however, the transmission was on backorder. Upon retrieving our vehicle, we endeavored to explore our options. As someone with experience in the parts side of the automotive industry, I leveraged my knowledge gained from working with Sale Fix, which afforded me insight into various repair shops. I had always been intrigued by Oxford Automotive, and thus, we opted to have our vehicle inspected there. The technician's assessment was meticulous, and their expertise was evident. For instance, they determined that the vehicle did not require a new rack and pinion, but rather an intermediate steering shaft, which represented a substantial cost savings ($400 vs. $3,000). Additionally, they identified that both lower ball joints needed replacement, a detail overlooked by the dealership. The technician also rotated the tires. Unfortunately, due to the transmission issues, they could not guarantee a solution. I must express my admiration for Kim, the manager of Oxford Automotive, who demonstrated exceptional professionalism. She provided us with a detailed estimate for the necessary repairs, excluding the transmission. After careful consideration, my husband and I concluded that investing $4,000 in repairs without a definitive solution for the transmission was not feasible. We consulted with Kim, and she understood our position. We have decided to take our vehicle to a transmission specialist to explore our options. If the vehicle can be salvaged, we intend to return to Oxford Automotive for the remaining repairs. Notably, in my over 20 years of experience in the automotive industry, this technician is only the second to accurately diagnose an intermediate shaft problem, a testament to their expertise and the high standards of Oxford Automotive.
